Food and Agriculture

For more than 25 years, we have been recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced firms in the country when it comes to agriculture and food. We offer a fully integrated range of legal and government relations services, tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. Our work and our history speaks for itself—we have been intimately involved in the development of agricultural policy since the 1970s, and we have drafted the legislation to create and continue to represent many of the commodity promotion programs operating today.

Government Relations

The government and regulatory practice at Watkinson Miller recognizes the need to fit client solutions seamlessly into Congressional and federal agency processes. Therefore, our approach to any issue involving the federal government is to ensure that the strategies and tactics that are developed to achieve our client's objectives are also coordinated with the workings of the particular agency or committee addressing the issue. Regulatory officials and Members of Congress must be convinced that there are substantive justifications for their actions, and our team of professionals has the experience to deliver effective arguments to support your case.

 

Litigation and Dispute Resolution

We have represented clients in a wide variety of litigation contexts from complex, multi-party litigation to two party arbitration. We zealously represent our clients in in a wide variety of commercial and constitutional matters in federal and state courts across the country, including the federal, state, and local courts of in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. Our litigators apply the skills they honed in large national law firms to effectively advocate for our clients. We have time-tested courtroom skills, but also possess the ability to negotiate a reasonable settlement when the circumstances so dictate.

Non-Profits

Our attorneys have extensive experience in representing a variety of non-profits and trade associations on a range of legal and policy issues. We serve as general counsel to and advise trade associations, foundations, advocacy organizations, investigative journalist organizations, non-profit theaters, religious societies, and other non-profits. We handle a range of issues, from the routine to the unique and cutting edge.  Our non-profit practice encompasses antitrust counsel; counseling clients regarding legal and ethical obligations of board members and officers; governance issues; constraints on lobbying; human resources and employment issues; and whether certain activities would generate unrelated, business taxable income; as well as a range of general corporate and contractual issues.  Our non-profit practice also includes counseling and advising clients on a range of intellectual property issues, including registering and reviewing trademarks, negotiating licensing and royalty agreements, and pursuing claims for trademark infringement.
